It’s time for an update on my Zepbound weight loss journey for end of April. This is month 3 of my journey (see links below for other editions) and I am happy to report that I’ve lost 16 pounds total in 3 months. I actually had to redo the math several times since I didn’t believe the numbers but it’s correct.
Weight Loss In Spurts
The reason I was skeptical was because I periodically step on the scale to weigh myself and there are days where I have zero weight loss then there are days where I seem to lose 2 or 3 pounds in one day.
Knowing this is the way this works for me I now just weigh myself the day I take the shot. I was taking the shots on Thursday then shifted to Saturday but finally landed on doing it on Fridays. Part of the reason for all the changes was international travel, the inability to get the medicine and inflammation reasons.
Inflammation
While losing weight on Zepbound is great it has also been amazing in containing my inflammation. I was feeling so good that I spent last week gardening and redoing my sprinkler system. Unfortunately, I did too much and ended up hurting my back so I’ve been at 50% and lying in bed periodically for most of this week. I was rotating between Aleve and Tylenol to deal with the pain and inflammation along with ice packs but this morning I took my shot and all the pain went away.
I’ve learned my lesson, I need to take it easy even though I don’t have any pain, the potential for inflammation injury is still there so next time I will be better prepared to stop as soon as I start feeling some pain.
Food & Hunger
The biggest downside to Zep is that food doesn’t taste like food. All food basically tastes bland. It doesn’t matter how salty or sweet something is because all flavor will be muted.
I am also rarely hungry and even when I am hungry, I can only seem to eat a very small bowl of food. I am still primarily eating soups and beans for most of my meals supplemented by Metamucil and some vitamins.
Body Changes
My wife said I am looking far more slender but I still have a deflating beer belly. My legs and arms seem to be far thinner and I am most concerned about losing lean muscle mass so I do take a daily protein shake and am considering upping it to two shakes per day.
I suspect a great deal of my weight loss is actually happening inside, I hope that I am burning off the fat around my organs because I honestly can’t tell where those 16 pounds came off of over the past three months.
Side Effects
The only “negative” side effect I have to report for April is that I do seem to get tired earlier so that I really feel like going to bed around 8 p.m. and usually wake up at 5 or 6 am. I’m not sure if Zep is responsible or the lower calorie consumption simply makes me tired but it’s something that I’m dealing with at the moment.
