I invest in ETFs for my investment portfolio. Some of my current ETF holdings are CPSM, SPGP, TLT, SCHD, SCHY and I use a tool by ETF Research Center to check my holdings.
SPGP vs SCHD
As an example, below is a screen shot checking the overlap between SPGP vs SCHD. As of the time of this post, there is 13 percent overlap of stocks between the two. When investing in ETFs, it’s important to not replicate the exact same holdings (unless that’s your goal) to ensure you have some level of diversification.
I compared all of my ETFs against each other and the only overlap is the screen shot above. Prior to using this tool, I would go to Finance Yahoo and look at the holdings or do a search to find the ETFs holdings then do a manual comparison. If you are wasting time doing the same thing, try using this tool!
Also note that I am still mostly sitting on cash and T-bill investments, I personally think this market is highly overvalued so I’m not adding but tiny amounts to these funds at the moment except for CPSM of which I bought $15k because it offers to guarantee downside protection and a capped 9 percent return over a year.
The ETF Research Center also has other tools such as an ETF Finder, Total Cost Comparison, Equity Power Screener, and ETF heatmap.
