I now use AI almost on a daily basis and I hadn’t thought about how dependent I am becoming on it until it stopped working. Earlier this week I asked AI to create some images for me and it refused to do so. I am not sure if it was a technical glitch, AI didn’t feel like working, or something else but no matter what I tried it would not generate any images.
I searched online to see what the issue could be and walked through all the recommendations but still could not get it to work properly. Finally, I “tricked” AI into creating a presentation then slowly asked it to create an image and began building on that and finally got it back to creating images.
Is AI alive and getting tired of human? Who knows but the whole episode got me wondering what happens when the entire planet is dependent on AI to be making decisions to doing work then it suddenly stops working.
For a brief moment, I did panic. AI has made my financial investment research so much easier. I can take a snapshot of a webpage or data block and have AI turn it into a table or csv file for me. I often do different research on it as a starting point now.
Earlier this year I wrote about diversification as a key theme given all the issues with banks, tech, healthcare and other things and now I will add AI to the list. I am now starting to “diversify” my AI use to different providers. Here are some of the ones in case anyone is interested:
- Chatgpt
- Gemini (Google)
- Microsoft CoPilot
- Claude
- Perplexity
And of course there is now an aggregator of all AIs called POE.
