The holy grail of credit card reward points has always been to pay your mortgage with a credit card. This is usually the largest recurring expense most people have on their bill pile. There are now potentially two credit cards that will allow you to do this with minimal fees.
Rather than type of a long write up, you can just watch this YouTube video.
But if you want a quick summary:
BILT – An existing credit card that has been out in the market to pay your rent but they will be rolling out a new feature to allow you to pay your mortgage.
MESA – A new startup that plans on allowing you to pay your mortgage with the card.
Both have points programs that can be used to redeem a variety of things.
I’ve written about how I used credit cards to pay for vacations around the world. I currently have over 500,000 frequent flyer miles and 500,000 points on a hotel chain which I plan on using this year.
My primary driver with credit cards now however is not really to earn points, that’s just a nice side benefit. My main goal with credit cards is to access services and features not normally available to other people.
I have an airline branded credit card that grants unlimited access to airport lounges and provides other perks. While other people with “passes” got denied entry during heavy use days such as cancelled flights, I’ve seen people get turned away but never me!
I also have credit cards that grant me highest tier “platinum” benefits at hotels that offer perks such as access to lounges that have free food and booze or upgrades to hotel suites.
The only mortgages I have are on rental property so I may take the plunge and try it out.
