I continue to explore how different cultures view money and I came across this video which is worth the watch as it covers money perspectives from a variety of cultures around the world.
In Kenya, people use “Harambee” which is a word that means “everyone comes together” to raise funds for the community. I would think “Crowdfunding” is the closest equivalent in the United States.
“Sou Sou” – a variation on crowdfunding where a more tight knit group puts money into a pool and rotates the proceeds on a person by person basis.
There are many other customs around money I was not aware of before watching this video despite having traveled and worked all over the world. I obviously have some more learning to do but I found this video educational and entertaining so I hope you will too.
