I’ve been an AT&T customer for a while now and a few days ago I received a notice that my personal data was compromised. There is a news story here about it but this is why companies shouldn’t collect data that they don’t need but that’s a story for another day. As a precaution AT&T is offering 12 months of credit monitoring which I took advantage of and evidently my social security, phone number and name are now on the dark web.
I have some fairly robust security protocols but this incident got me looking into some YouTube videos on what are some better protocols and tools out there that may help enhance what I already have and came across this great resource. I already use many of the things recommended in the video.
This is a great time to review your security procedures and add any of these tools to your tool box.
I have no relationship with the YouTuber, I just find many of his videos useful and entertaining so hopefully it will help you enhance your security posture and keep your personal finance data a bit more secure.
This also isn’t the first time of a data breach either, it seems like I’ve had free credit monitoring for years from periodic hacks on other services. This whole hacking thing is getting ridiculous and I hope the laws change to make the damage inflicted on people impact those collecting all this data for marketing purposes.
And if you’re on a tight budget and need some free resources check out this video.
